STEPHEN MINISTRY is...
a program of our congregation that equips laypersons to provide distinctively Christian one-to-one care to those who are experiencing all kinds of life needs and circumstances, both in our congregation and community. Stephen Ministers work together with our pastoral staff to reach more people with Christian Care than the staff can reach by themselves.

There are times when each of us needs the care of another person, a Christian friend, a Stephen Minister Caregiver! These needs include but are not limited to...

  • Grieving the death of a loved one

  • Hospitalized or recovering from hospitalization

  • Lonely or discouraged

  • Coping with a terminal illness or caring for a family member with a terminal illness

  • Dealing with divorce or separation

  • Caring for a family member with Alzheimer’s or Dementia

  • Unemployed or in a job crisis

  • Disabled or caring for a disabled family member

  • Moving or relocating

  • Anticipating the birth or adoption of a child

  • Homebound or institutionalized

  • Transitioning into retirement

  • Dealing with the crisis of aging

  • Experiencing a spiritual crisis

  • Victims of a disaster or accident

  • And people facing countless other crises or life challenges or who are going through a difficult time and could benefit from the care of a supportive Christian friend.

If you or someone you know, friend, neighbor coworker, is hurting, we suggest a Stephen Minister. You can get more information by talking with our Stephen Leader: Kimberlie Glasco (248) 766-7518  or by calling the church office at (248)-373-0033. You may also email us at kimglasco@yahoo.com

Christ caring for People through People!

Meet Our
Stephen Ministers

We have Stephen Ministers available to walk you through your crisis. Stephen Ministers are members of our congregation who have extensive training in providing care to individuals who are going through any type of crisis or life transition. It’s completely confidential and free.

People may wonder why we have a Stephen Ministry…caring for people in crisis, isn’t that what the Pastor is for? The simplest answer is that it takes more than a Pastor to provide care to our congregation. Our Pastor is like a firefighter, when a crisis happens he rushes to the scene to put out the fire. But shortly after that another fire will break out, either in our congregation or in the lives of those we are close to, they will rush to that scene. He will still minister to the individuals of the first fire, but his time quickly becomes consumed by the needs of the second, third, and fourth fire. This is of course in addition to his other pastoral duties.

This is where our Stephen Ministers come in. The Pastor will always be a firefighter, but our Stephen Ministers are people who come in after the fire is put out, (and sometimes before) and help the individuals sort through and clear the debris and begin to rebuild. Stephen Ministers continue to provide care as long as needed during the crisis and the healing period, it may be a month or two, six months, possibly even a year or more. They provide consistent weekly face to face care that our Pastor could not possibly provide.

Our Stephen Ministers have been extensively trained in how to provide care in many circumstances. They are there to listen and support any individual who is in need. They are not there to give advice, fix the problem or cram bible verses down their care receivers throat. Their job is to show up, listen, offer support and prayer if requested, and they will do so in a compassionate and nonjudgmental way. Everybody who receives care from a Stephen Ministry can feel completely assured that everything will be kept confidential. In fact, the only people who will even know you are being visited by a Stephen Minister is you, the Stephen Minister, and the Stephen Ministry Leader (the one who will assign you a minister).
